The Pro Bono King Hall program encourages students who have completed at least one semester of law school to contribute at least 50 hours of legal service per year. This work must be carried out under the supervision of a lawyer or a member of the Faculty of Law. The Office of Career Services maintains lists of volunteer opportunities, processes applications and certifies hours to the Faculty of Law Registrar. Students interested in participating in the program are asked to check with the Office of Career Services about internships. After approval, students can initiate their own internships. After demonstrating 50 hours of legal or legal service, students receive a certificate of recognition signed by the Dean and a grade on their transcript. Students are encouraged to renew their commitment to the Pro Bono King Hall program each year, earning additional certificates and transcript grades. DePaul offers a certificate in public interest law. The program includes mandatory and elective courses as well as an experience and service component.

While there is no specific program or certificate program of public interest, the College of Law offers a variety of courses focused on legal areas and skills that are of interest to the public interest student. In addition, there are many individual courses on issues of public interest. The College of Law also recommends offering at least 60 hours of pro bono service over the three years of law school. Studying law is challenging in itself and also useful in a variety of careers. By the end of your studies, you will have acquired knowledge and understanding of criminal law and tort as well as skills in general and legal studies. Understanding how these laws are made, the importance of legal rights and duties, and how the law affects society will help you understand society and your own role in it. You will also be prepared for further law studies or career development in law, business, government, education, charities and non-governmental organizations, and a variety of other public and regulatory roles. Law school is a gateway to a career as a lawyer or lawyer, but it`s not the only path you can choose. There are many options available to you beyond the legal profession, including finance, human resources, local government, or general management. Learners should also, in consultation with their employer, select a range of units that complement their work and enhance their general understanding of how the legal organisation works. Depending on the role and interests, this could include aspects such as case management, legal research, advising clients, but also, depending on responsibility at work, leading teams and monitoring the quality of individual and team work. Students can earn a certificate in World Trade Organization Studies by taking a core international law course and an additional 12 credits in WTO-related courses. You must also maintain an overall grade point average of B, complete sessional work on a WTO legal topic and participate in extracurricular activities related to WTO issues (attend a conference, congress or court hearing, or equivalent event per semester). The Public Interest Law Program is administered in partnership with the School of Law by the Public Interest Clearinghouse, a non-profit organization that supports legal services programs in California and Nevada.
