The Blumen We Love photo contest is open to all amateur, aspiring and professional photographers who are NOT banned in Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria and elsewhere. Participants must be at least 18 years old. Participants under the age of 18 require permission from a parent or guardian. Smithsonian Magazine`s 19th annual photo contest begins April 1, 2021 and ends November 30, 2021 at 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to the contest rules and indicates that they are 18 years of age or older. 1. WHO IS ELIGIBLE: NWPC is open to all photographers worldwide who are at least 13 years old, with the exception of NWF employees and board members, their immediate families, and persons living in the same household as such employees and board members. NWF reserves the right to verify eligibility at its sole discretion. Participants between the ages of 13 and 17 (“Youth Participants”) MAY only participate in the Youth category (see below) and MUST obtain parental or guardian consent prior to participating in the NWPC. Participants who are 18 years of age or older (“General Participants”) are not eligible to participate in the Youth category.
Photos can be in color or black and white. You don`t need to upload all the photos at once. You can return to your account page at any time by logging in with your username and password. 6. Applications will be evaluated according to the evaluation criteria defined below. All entries must be submitted and received by the agreed deadline. A proof of submission is not proof of receipt. Registration must be made by the authorized account holder of the email address provided at the time of entry. “Authorized Account Holder” is defined as the natural person who provides an email address of an Internet access provider, online service provider, Internet domain holder or other person or entity (e.g.
e.g. businesses, educational institutions, etc.) who is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the specified email address. The Sponsor reserves the right to review the original photograph/source material to confirm compliance with these rules. 13. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY: Entrants retain ownership and all other rights to the future use of the photographs they submit, except for the following: Your participation in the Contest constitutes your agreement that your submitted photos – and your name, occupation, city, state, country of residence and photo information – will be published as winners or honorable mentions in National Wildlife Magazine and on the NWF website. and You grant NWF and its licensors a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive license to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of participation (with attribution) in the National Wildlife Photo Contest (“NWPC”) and promotion of the NWPC and National Wildlife® Magazine in all media now known or hereafter devised, including, but not limited to, use in online photography and subtitle contest features and use in NWF photo exhibitions. From time to time, we will display the participant`s ungiven images about commercial products and services, but we will contact you for permission to use them. The Smithsonian may select photos to be featured on its website or posted in publicly accessible contest archives. This selection is at the sole discretion of the Smithsonian. 5. CATEGORIES: General participants must enter each image in one of the following first seven categories (i-vii categories below) and may submit all images in one category or select different categories for different photos.
The same photo cannot be submitted in more than one category. The jury reserves the right to change the images for other categories. Youth must submit their photos in the Youth category (Category VIII below). If you plan to use a social media platform to run your contest, you must include a clear disclaimer stating that your company is running the contest and that the social media platform is not responsible or affiliated with it. In addition to the disclaimer, you must follow the rules of the platform you use to run the contest. Countries also have different laws for contests, so be sure to do your research. For a photograph in which a person is recognizable, you must be prepared to provide the Smithsonian, upon request, with a sample discharge of the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject`s parents or guardians. An example version of the template can be found here. Cropped photos are allowed in all categories.
We do not accept digital or otherwise enhanced or altered photos, except for those submitted in the “Modified Images” category. Minor adjustments, including removing dust or scratches from the sensor when scanning negatives, dodging and engraving, sharpening, contrasting, toning, adjusting light color, and converting to grayscale are acceptable for all categories. Adding and subtracting objects is not allowed, except in the Edited Images category. If the jury determines that a photographer has modified their photo, they reserve the right to move or disqualify the photo to Modified Images. Image composites, including HDR and stitched panoramas, are considered modified images. If you take the time to establish ground rules now, you can avoid legal problems in the future. If you`re having trouble getting started, we`ve given you some tips below, as well as some standard rules and regulations for photo contests. While these are just examples of photo contest rules and regulations, they are a good starting point for creating your own. They can also provide a starting point for building the rules for each type of online competition. Tailor them to your needs and include them prominently before people enter your contest. Writing rules may not be the most interesting part of your contest, but once you have them, you can relax knowing that they protect you. 4.
The American experience: events, objects, or activities that connect the American people to their history or cultural heritage; Photos that tell us what it means to be American and give us an idea of what it`s like to live in this country. 19. GUARANTEE: By participating, the Participant warrants that his/her entry documents are original, do not infringe any rights of third parties and that the Participant has obtained all necessary permissions from third parties if a third party or the property of a third party appears in the photograph. NWF reserves the right to disqualify entries if NWF determines, in its sole discretion, that any of the above warranties do not apply. NWF decisions are final and binding. The well-being of a subject and his environment must take precedence over the desire to take a photo. By entering the contest, participants confirm that subjects have been treated with respect and dignity and that no person, wildlife or environment has been harmed while taking a photo. Upon Sponsor`s request, each entrant must be willing to provide (within seven (7) calendar days of receipt of the Sponsor`s request) a signed release from all persons appearing in the submitted photo and/or the owner of the materials appearing in the photo entry authorizing the Sponsor and its licensors (the “Authorized Parties”) to display and create derivative works of the Entry in the Connection of the competition and promotion of Competition in all known media now or later. Failure to provide such releases upon request may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner at any time during the Contest. Using independent photo contest software can give you extra flexibility and free you from the restrictions or cumbersome restrictions of third-party social media. If the entrant is unable to provide all required authorizations, the Smithsonian reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify the entry, obtain the required authorizations, or maintain the Contest Submission.
To be eligible for a category, a photo must have been taken by the participant since January 1, 2019. This date applies to all images of a composite. The entrant confirms that he/she is the sole author and copyright holder of the submitted photo.
