Queen`s Law has an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching in law and policy. The Colloquium on Legal and Political Philosophy is a series of seminars that bring distinguished visitors to Queen`s and a credit course. Students enrolled in the colloquium come from the fields of law, political science, and philosophy and meet with the conference organizers to discuss any paper presented by a leading legal or political philosophy, and then meet with the author, faculty members, and guests for a workshop on the paper. The conference fosters close collaboration between legal, philosophical and political studies by bringing together students and faculty from these overlapping disciplines to engage in rigorous intellectual debate. The organizers of the conference are Professors Webber and Thomas, both of Queen`s Law and having cross-activities with the Department of Philosophy. Together, Queen`s Law members work in the areas of general jurisprudence, constitutional theory, legal theory, private law theory and international law theory. You are a member of the editorial board or advisory board of the most influential legal philosophy journals (including Law and Philosophy, Jurisprudence, American Journal of Jurisprudence, Canadian Journal of Law and Jurisprudence and Legal Theory) and Leslie Green is co-editor of Oxford Studies in Philosophy of Law and the Oxford Legal Philosophy monograph series, both published by Oxford University Press. In addition to their other courses in political and legal thought, students usually attend the Colloquium on Legal and Political Philosophy. The colloquium is a very distinct course that focuses on seminars given by some of the world`s leading legal and political theorists. Students are also encouraged to participate in the Political Philosophy Reading Group, which meets informally every two weeks to discuss important contemporary writings, some of which have been written by professors and doctoral students in philosophy, political science, or law. Queen`s Law`s Policy and Legal Think Tank has close ties to the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Political Studies, as evidenced by the Colloquium on Law and Political Philosophy and the Graduate Program in Political Thought and Legal.
The Graduate Program in Political and Legal Thought (PLT) is a 12-month collaborative degree that allows students to specialize in social, political, and legal theory. Students complete each year a master`s degree in the departments of philosophy or political science or a master`s degree in law at the Faculty of Law by choosing from a wide range of designated courses in the three disciplines, covering topics such as global justice, jurisprudence, ethics and animals, just war theory, feminism and law.
